I bought a Mid 2012 15' MacBookPro10,1 4-Core i7 'Ivy Bridge' 2.6 GHz brand new in box on eBay last year for $1200 and it also works fine. I still have that computer and actually use it to mix on my couch every once in a while.
BUT I could not keep Logic X up to date due to iOS constraints. I had a 2009 MacBook Pro which was a Core 2 Duo and believe it or not still runs PT 12.7 fine. I know everyone likes and needs details so here we go. Is a Mac Mini as good or better than a MacBook Pro?
